Just like everything else in your home, your windows will change over time, becoming less effective at keeping out the elements until your best option is to replace them. Here at Crown Builders, we understand that it can be difficult to tell whether it’s time to get new windows or whether it’s worth it to try to fix the ones you have. To help you decide, in this article we’ll be going over three indications that the time has come to get new windows.
- Leaks or Rot- One sure sign that you should get new windows is if your current windows start to leak or the frames are becoming rotten or decayed. A big part of your windows’ job is to keep the elements out of your home, so if they start to leak, then it’s time to start looking for replacements. Even if there’s no visible leak, a rotten or warped frame means that it’s not long before moisture can start making its way inside.
- Impeded Operation- If you’re not sure whether you need new windows, we at Crown Builders suggest checking how easily each one opens and closes. If there are windows that are difficult to operate, meaning that they don’t move easily in the frame, require pressure, or have been painted shut, then it’s probably time to replace them.
- High Energy Bills- A less obvious sign that it may be time for new windows is if your energy bill starts to climb. There are many reasons that this could happen, so it’s understandable if you don’t immediately connect it to your windows, but you should at least look into it. If your windows develop gaps that let heat and air move in and out of your home, then your HVAC system will have to spend more energy to maintain your desired temperature, which in turn leads to higher energy bills.
