How to Prepare Your Home for Window Installation

Replacing your windows is something every long-time homeowner will need to do eventually as their windows succumb to the effects of age or are damaged. Hiring a new window installation service is a great step for improving your home’s appearance and energy efficiency, but there are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare your home for this new addition. Be sure to follow these tips to make your window installation go smoothly.

How to Prepare Your Home for Window Installation

  • Clear the area. This goes for both the interior and exterior areas around the window. Move furniture and any clutter in the way on the interior side, and make sure there are no large bushes or outdoor furniture that can get in the way of your installer. You’ll also want to make sure there aren’t any blinds or curtains in the area at the time of the installation. Without a clear area to work, your installer won’t be able to take your old window out and put the new window in.
  • Take pets and children elsewhere. Because children and pets are curious, they tend to get too close to anyone at work, which can compromise their safety as well as the well-being of the project itself. If possible, keep your pets and children in another room or take them to a friend or family member’s house while the window installation is taking place.
  • Prepare a path. Your installer will need a clear path to bring out the new window. If there are too many obstacles in the way, such as a car parked in a narrow driveway or toys and clutter littered throughout the path from your front door to the room with the window being replaced, your installer won’t be able to safely transport the glass.
