Hiring a roofing contractor to complete work on your roof is not something that many homeowners will have done before, and certainly not a large enough number of times to be comfortably familiar with the process. Thankfully, the process of preparing for a roofing contractor to visit is much the same as preparing for any other type of contractor you might hire to take a look at and work on your home:
- Clear the way to the work area. Roofing contractors will be working on your roof, so you will want to make sure that your contractor has a clear. Additionally, you will want to make sure that anything of value, like lawn furniture, grills, and cars, is all moved safely away from any potential falling objects from the roof.
- Take down wall fixtures. Things like paintings, sculptures mounted to walls, and perhaps even art pieces on pedestals are all susceptible to being damaged if the roofing process causes the house to shake. For this reason, it is a good idea to make sure that anything breakable is safely stored elsewhere while roofing work is being done on your home.
- Have plans for children and pets. Roof work is often loud and disruptive. In order to avoid undue distress, it can be a good idea to plan a day trip, a playdate, or a sleepover for your children and pets for the duration of the work.
By having plans for each of these three categories, you can be relatively assured that you will have a smoother experience when your contractor shows up.
