If you have a patio or are building a home with a patio, then you probably know you need to select a door to lead out to your patio. There are a few options to choose from. The two most common door options are French doors and sliding patio doors. We are going to compare these two great patio door options.
- French Doors – French doors are most common in homes with a traditional style. They can open by swinging inward or outward. French doors typically have a larger doorframe than sliding doors. This will allow for more light entering your home and a larger view out to your deck and property. French doors will have a more traditional doorknob or handle. This type of door needs more room to allow for the doors to swing open.
- Sliding Patio Doors – This door style slides side to side to open and close. Sliding doors usually come with a sliding screen door that can be left closed while the glass door is slid open for a pest-free breeze throughout your home. Sliding patio doors will have a handle to pull and push and not a knob or handle to twist. Sliding patio doors are ideal for smaller areas because they use up less space.
So, which door is right for you? That depends on your home and what you are looking for. If you have the space and want a larger door opening, then french doors are probably for you. If you don’t have the extra space but still want a big glass door, then a sliding patio door is probably right for you.
